Fields in DraftSight:

A Field is text that contains various types of information of a drawing file such as drawing name, Path, Author, Date and Time. Fields can be inserted in text through SimpleNote, Note, and in attribute definition.

Fields are updated automatically when you save, print, or rebuild drawings. You can also update Fields manually with the RebuildField command.

 

Inserting Fields:

  1. Enter Note/SimpleNote in the Command window or double click on the available text to display the text editing dialog box.
  2. In the text editing dialog box click on the Field button to insert fields.
  3. In the Field dialog box select a category in field Category. Fields in the selected category are listed in Name list.
  4. Select a Field in the Name drop-down list. The current value of most Fields is displayed in a Preview box below the Category field.
  5. Select the format in the Format drop down list below Name field
  6. Click OK button to insert the field.

 

Defining Drawing file Properties:

Drawing properties are displayed in the Name field in the Field dialog box. You can assign, view and edit the standard properties of the current drawing file and define custom properties for the file. Standard drawing properties include details such as author name, title, subject, keywords, and comments that describe the drawing's topic or contents.

To define drawing properties Click File in DraftSight menu bar and choose Properties… to open the Drawing properties dialog box. In the Drawing properties dialog enter the property information under Summary and Custom tabs.

      

Summary Tab: In the Summary tab enter or edit the standard properties that include author, keywords, comments, title, and subject. The Statistics area informs about creation date and last saved date of the drawing file as well as the name of the user who last saved the file.

Custom Tab: In the custom tab enter the Name and Value for custom property. The new custom property and its value are displayed on the Custom tab.
