Discover what's new in Product Perception Experience R2023x FD03. And learn how to use the new features!

So many CATIA apps, so many new features... it's quite easy to miss some!

In CATIA Product Perception Experience (aka. "PPX"), there are at least 5 new features in the R2023x FD03 release that any PPX user should be aware of. And I would like to add 2 new features from the FD02 that might have been overlooked.

Visualization / Rendering / VR

  • Access to the Viewpoint variant properties (23xFD02) to edit all the parameters of the underlying camera (same parameters as in Live Rendering)
  • Interactive Stellar - global illumination, in Presentation mode (23xFD02)
  • Batch rendering of variant line combinations
  • Option to use an interaction sphere instead of the laser beam for a closer, more direct interaction with trigger objects in VR (HMD)

Animations

  • Option to leave the parts in their position or reset them after playing a kinematics, physics or human animation
  • Option to not turn an object when using the Turntable Controller

Variant - Human

  • Support of generative human profiles

Let's dive in and discover how these new capabilities facilitate the exploration of design alternatives and decision making.

What's New

For the What's New videos, I invite you to simply check the official wiki page on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform users' community:

Learn how to use the new features

Here are a couple of videos which I hope will help you getting started using some of these new PPX features, including some that have been released in 23xFD02 and not yet advertised.

The first video shows in 7 steps how one can easily create human variants from the profiles of a generative human, along with creating another set of human variants from its animations. It is fairly similar to the video in the wiki, but with a few more detailed steps and tips & tricks.

The second video is about an important feature released in R2023x FD02: the editing of the Viewpoint variant properties. The video covers some important aspects of the functionality which are key to understand, for examples:

  • The use of the Properties panel to access the detailed definition of Viewpoint variants
  • How to exit the workflow of editing Viewpoint variants, and go back to editing actor's properties
  • The live update of the viewpoint variant definition while navigating or using the view voodoo

Thank you @ML and @MR for the e-car material and ambience setup, and @FR for sharing your nice Concept car PPX experience with me (design by @AS) 😊

Bonus

Here is a 14' step-by-step video showing pretty much in real-time how I used a basic Cornell box to get mesmerized by interactive Stellar global illumination, not only in authoring mode, but also in presentation mode with object and light animations 🤓

NB: I can also provide the 3DXML file of the Cornell box if you'd like to give it a try by yourself. Just go to the Conversation tab and start one with me :)

Next

Not sure if I will find the time to make additional "how to" videos anytime soon (I'd like to make one for the batch rendering of variant combinations).

In the meantime:

  • Have a look at the User Assistance, for example by selecting the What's New command in the rightmost fly-out of the Action Bar 😉
  • Have a look at the stunning Tron design & experience made by @LP and @UB (CATIA industry process experts):
