AUTOMATED FARMING SYSTEM (POTY2K21)

Hello Everyone,

India being a highly agriculture-dependent country and second worldwide in farm outputs. About 50% of the workforce is used in the agriculture industry and it contributes to 13.7% of the GDP in 2013 which is declining steadily. Among the big reasons for poor agriculture conditions were poor seed quality, inefficient farming practises and lack of productivity of its farms, as per stats the productivity of Indian farms is less than that of Brazil, USA, China and other nations and the total factor productivity growth remains below 2% per annum which clearly shows the inefficiency of farming in India. The poor agricultural conditions clearly show the need to optimize the farming procedure and work output rate of farming in the country.

The Solution for this problem was to design an efficient farming system that can increase productivity and reduce the farming efforts of the farmers and the mental stress and also increasing the work output rate of farming. The use of fewer resources as the amount of water required for farming will be much less than the conventional method as a calculated amount of water will be directly supplied to the crop rather than flooding the whole field or veins. The idea is to make a sustainable design in terms of utilization of water, seeds, fertilizers etc. used in farming. The solution will provide assistance to the farmers with higher productivity and lesser efforts.

Concept Idea of the Product-
The working idea of the model is similar to that of a Crane and hoist system used in various factories and harbours in this case instead of the hoist there will be a solid bar that will be using rack and a pinion system and instead of the hook in the centre of the crane there will be an adjustable lever arm which can be easily removed so as to fulfil the different operations, further the idea is to create an automatically changing arm as per the need.
Our model will work on the closed-loop with sensors that will specify the system the moisture content of the soil, weather conditions, the temperature of the surroundings, the intensity of sunlight, the intensity of rainfall and hailstorm.
The system is designed to compete for all the farming process which includes preparing of land, sowing of seeds, watering etc. The model will be a helping hand to the farming in both the initial and final phase of the farming and thus also relieving the farmers of undue fatigue. Precision farming, farm-land mapping, drip irrigation and regulated admission of fertilizers can be some of the possible features.

Working of the Product-
The three Main Objectives of the model are 
1. Sowing 
2. Watering 
3. Fertilizing
As mentioned earlier a system identical to crane and hoist is idealized which will be a 3 axis CNC machine type system is set up on the field with a parallel track system along the length. A universal tool holder will be incorporated to mount the tools on the gantry, motors will be used to move the end effecter to various locations on the field to perform specified tasks, mapping of the field is done and a centralized controller is used to direct the machine to various locations and carry on the given task. Sensors such as Control unit (which can be programmed to perform certain calculations and accordingly instruct the components), Ultrasonic sensors, potentiometer, Arduino Soil Moisture Sensor Module, Arduino Uno and HC-05 Bluetooth module will be used for various applications so as to automate and execute the farming with high precision.
