On Monday, 8th September 2025, I had the privilege of leading The SOLIDWORKS Event hosted by the Kyambogo Mechanical Design Team at the Mechanical Department Block. It was an inspiring afternoon of innovation, learning, and collaboration, where we explored how SOLIDWORKS and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform continue to shape the future of engineering design.
I was honored to share this session alongside my colleague, Eng. Turyasingura Medard, and together we guided students and young engineers through the practical power of design, career opportunities, and certification pathways.
💡 What Made the Session Special?
The dedication and enthusiasm of the attendees turned this into a truly fruitful and engaging session. It was uplifting to see not only Kyambogo University students but also participants from other universities join us. This shows how design and innovation bring minds together across institutions.
Key Points Delivered to the Attendees:
- Certification Pathways (CSWA & CSWP): We emphasized the importance of certification in opening professional doors, validating design skills, and standing out in a competitive job market.
- SOLIDWORKS in Real-World Applications: Demonstrations showed how parametric modeling, assemblies, and simulations make it possible to turn creative ideas into functional products.
Career Growth with 3DEXPERIENCE Tools: We highlighted how the 3DEXPERIENCE ecosystem connects design, collaboration, and innovation for tomorrow’s engineers.
Tips & Tricks Shared During the Session:
- Start small: focus on mastering part modeling basics before moving to advanced features.
- Use parametric design to make your models more adaptable and reduce redesign time.
- Tackle certification prep step by step, begin with practice exams, identify weak areas, and build confidence with hands-on projects.
- Collaborate effectively: leverage cloud-based design to share and review models seamlessly with peers.
Takeaways for Students:
This wasn’t just a technical workshop. It was an invitation to see design as a language of innovation, one that connects creativity with practical engineering solutions. Many students left motivated to pursue certifications (CSWA & CSWP) and to deepen their engagement with the 3DEXPERIENCE Student platform.
Looking Ahead
For all students and academicians from other institutions whom I couldn’t reach this time, I warmly encourage you to join us for the next session happening later this month. These events are not just about learning software, they’re about building a community of problem solvers ready to design the future.
Big thanks to Uganda SWUG and the Kyambogo Mechanical Design Team for making this possible, and to all participants for your energy, questions, and engagement. Let’s continue to Create, Collaborate & Innovate with SOLIDWORKS
