Produce an automated process to create custom masks

There are processes on-line describing how to customize the design to fit perfectly the face.

WHO :

What I have seen so far is the use of:

1) Blender designed by Blender.org

2) with photogrammetry (https://www.capturingreality.com/RealityCapture-PPI

3) and a STL file for the base mask

and a very tedious manual process.

This process reminded me what was existing before we created GDE and automated the process.

We should be able to come up with a parametrized model in CATIA/Solidworks and create an automated loop to match perfectly the design to the face definition using our data matching capabilities in Process Composer.

Latest update: March 31

Thanks to  @PJ team, we should be able to extract face information from Apple FaceID

From there the CATIA team will produce automatically a surface and then by extrusion a skin model

The SIMULIA team will take over and simulate the contact between the skin and the mask. Design alternatives, playing with parameters, will be evaluated to equi distribute pressure on the person face, thus increasing comfort.

The resulting design will be ready to print on EOS machine. A dedicated marketplace will be set up to manage access to machines, directly from to the 3DEXPERIENCE.

The race is on!

We had an exchange with the University of Texas in Austin. They contacted us to see if we could help them automate the design and fabrication of masks for healthcare professionals.

This is originally to support the DELL Medical school in Austin. They brought in EOS as machines are available at the the EERC ( Engineering Education Research Center) as well as Microsoft who has expertise in mask design ( Hololens)

The teams share their progress.

UT and Microsoft are using SolidWorks so they ended up with a manual process to do the fitting (about 20mns of work by an engineer). They are running like everybody else against time so they are going to source the activities to many engineers.

First Patrick Johnson's team gave us a way to access the facial information using the Apple FaceID API:

The CATIA team lead by  @DP the help of @SC manage to quasi automate the mask design based of the mask template and the face information to get a perfect fit. We still need to automate the positioning of the template with respect to the mask. So far we may have to use the sketcher.

@CE also presented an instance of the marketplace to put in contact requester and makers. We are clearly in competition with Microsoft on this piece of the process.

@VO and @Jing BI from his team SIMULIA performed the first simulations. The target is to find the most comfortable design. We can add CFD simulation to validate the mask tight fit.

On the DELMIA side we need to look at how to automate the placement of multiple masks on those EOS machines.

On the ENOVIA side we need to set the global process :  get FaceID info, launch design & simulation process followed by the manufacturing.
