With the end of the lockdown and the recovery of activity, wearing masks is now accepted as the norm. However, masks are not fully suitable for physical works or outside jobs (rain, dust), like in construction jobs.
Face shields are an interesting alternative to masks to protect people from Covid 19, we can guess that the efficiency might be high if everybody wears the protection (in the same way as collective wear of surgical masks provides the same efficiency as an FFP2 mask). But there is today no norm for this use of face shields, and a lack of data and studies about it.
In the same way as the Simulia’s sneeze test, we could simulate the protection level provided by a collective wear of professional face shields (Bolle shield for example). Simulia could help to simulate a sneeze or a cough stopped by the face shield “from inside to outside”.
This simulation could help to understand and acculturate about this new paradigm, and trigger other studies.
