Session Abstract

This session provides a deep dive into Coupled Eulerian Lagrangian analysis and the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method in SIMULIA Structural Mechanics Engineer, with a focus on when to use each approach and how they can work together. We review the core ideas and setup of CEL for fluid and highly deforming media interacting with Lagrangian structures, including Eulerian meshing, material and equation-of-state selection, advection controls, and contact coupling. We then detail SPH as a mesh-free method well suited to free surfaces, fragmentation, jets, and granular or soft matter, covering particle spacing, kernels, stability, and time-step criteria, and material modeling. Side-by-side case studies, such as sloshing loads, fluid-filled impact, bird strike, or slurry interactions, evaluate accuracy, forces, pressure histories, and runtime.
