How To
Accessing 3DSwym Communities For The First Time
3DSwym is accessed using the Communities tab on the SOLIDWORKS Design default cockpit. The tab is pre-configured to automatically display the communities available to you on your company's 3DEXPERIENCE platform the first time you click on it.
All new 3DEXPERIENCE platforms are supplied with one example community called Play 3DEXPERIENCE. This is a public community available to all users on your 3DEXPERIENCE platform. You can use this community for testing and to explore creating different types of content, for example, posts, Ideas, Questions, etc.
Creating a dedicated Community for Company Standards and Guidelines
To create a new Community, select the Create Community icon.
Next, give your Community a name and description. By default, the Ownership of the community will be assigned to the person creating the Community. A community Owner can add participants and configure the community settings and permissions.
Note: A different owner or multiple owners can be assigned after the community has been created.After the Community has been created, the next step is to define the permissions and content types allowed. Add a thumbnail image that highlights the intent of the Community.
Use the scroll bar on the right-hand side of the window to view the settings that control the types of content that users will be able to create.
The Company Standards and Guidelines are typically organised into different categories; therefore, Wiki pages are best suited for capturing this type of information. Enable the Wiki option from the available content types.
Media and Post content types are enabled by default. Except Wiki, all of the other types can be disabled.
The final step is to configure the visibility of the community to other users on your 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Public will make the community visible to all users on your 3DEXPERIENCE platform, plus any new users that are added in future. Secret enables you to restrict visibility of a Community to a select number of users.
For general company standards and guidelines, it's likely that you will want all users to be able to access the information.
When finished, select Save to commit your chosen settings. The Community is now configured and ready to use.
Select the chevron icon next to Manage Community to exit the Community settings.
Creating Your First Wiki Page
With your first Community created, you are now ready to start creating content. To create the first page of the Wiki, select the Create Content icon followed by the Wiki icon.
Next, you are prompted to choose where the new page will sit in the Wiki tree structure. The first page that you create will sit below the default root page.
You are now ready to start writing the page and adding images. The format bar at the top of the page provides a set of tools for managing headings, font styles, adding tables, images, plus many more.
Tip: While a page is being written, its visibility to other users can be controlled via the Wiki page permissions. To set the visibility, click on Public at the top right while editing the page.
When the page is complete and ready to be viewable by a wider audience, the visibility can be set back to Public.
As more pages are added to the Wiki, the tree can be used to organise the pages into a logical structure. Users can navigate the structure to browse to a specific piece of content.

AURA Virtual Companion can be used to provide deeper insights and advice based on the information available within a specific community on your 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
From the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the 3DSwym widget, you can ask AURA a question, and the scope of the response will be limited to just the information available in your Community.
