In this presentation, you will be introduced to a set of SOLIDWORKS modeling techniques used at BOYD Corporation for producing one of their high-performance heat exchangers. You can design just about anything in SOLIDWORKS, but the question always remains as to whether you can manufacture it. This presentation seeks to address this by demonstrating how BOYD’s design engineers account for the real-world processes that drive design. These heat exchangers are produced through high-precision machining and a specialized brazing process. This allows several, intricate, parts to be joined together to form a singular, high-strength, component that will withstand the rigors of its field application. Such processes require designers to manage their models in a way that mimics how they will be fabricated on the production floor. Join us to see how real designers account for the shrinkage of the brazed assembly with configurations and how assembly cuts are used for the final machined features.
