The goal of this presentation is to show our community the benefits of using the top-down modeling in SOLIDWORKS to speed up the welding fixtures design process. Welding fixtures design is as important as the product design because they guaranty the repeatability and quality of our final products. In this presentation we will use a weldment file for which a fixture is required, and we will go through the entire design process. This includes selecting the best orientation to ensure the final part comes out smoothly, discussing some tips and tricks for modeling, utilizing design libraries, adhering to best practices for using toolbox, and creating the manufacturing drawings. This is a practical case in which we will use many SOLIDWORKS tools and geared to people who want to see how these tools interact in the design intent. They will also see how changes in the product can be quickly reflected in the fixture by using this method of modeling.
