1186 - Additive Manufacturing in the NTI Classroom: Tips for 3D Printing Remotely

Engineers and engineering students can already model from home using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and design software like xDesign, but how can they produce their prototypes from home?

With so many teachers utilizing NTI (non-traditional instruction) and many engineers working from home, there is a need to be able to produce models from anywhere. We will explore several options that will allow engineers and engineering students to start and monitor prints on an office/classroom 3D printer from home. We will discuss options from Stratasys, Makerbot, Markforged, Ultimaker, and Astraprint.

We will also set up a \$35 octoprint instance that can turn many low cost printers into remote machines. Additionally we will investigate 3D printing service options that might be appropriate for some settings.
