1127 - Bringing Ceramics Into the 21st Century With SOLIDWORKS and 3D Printing

The world of ceramics can often be associated with being old-fashioned. While studying for my master's in design at college, I decided I wanted to shake off that stuffy image and look at ways of bringing ceramics into the 21st century by combining SOLIDWORKS with the use of 3D technologies. For this session, attendees will be able to see how I did this. They will get a walk-through of the whole process from designing my ceramic pieces in SOLIDWORKS to 3D printing or laser-cutting models for mold making.

Through the use of SOLIDWORKS modeling and 3D printing models for making plaster molds, production is dramatically sped up, accuracy in designs and final products is increased. Within SOLIDWORKS see how I account for firing shrinkages, the clay's casting thickness, the number of mold parts needed, and even where the mold seam lines will be.
