Getting Started Videos

There are two very useful Getting Started Videos, which can be found in the CST Studio Suite installation folder. These will guide you through an overview of the CST Studio Suite® user interface and demonstrate how to build a simple first model from scratch. They can be found under:

C:\Program Files (x86)\CST Studio Suite 2020\Videos

They are also available here in the community via the CST Studio Suite Learning Resources post.

Getting Started Books

If you want to dive deeper into the individual applications and domains of CST Studio Suite then it is recommended you read the appropriate Getting Started Book, which can also be found in the installation folder of CST Studio Suite. These books cover some of the fundamentals as to what solvers are used and how they work and a couple of step by step workshops which can be followed to build complete simulation models from initial geometry to selecting appropriate boundary settings.

Component Library

CST Studio Suite comes with a large library of models from a variety of different domains. All these models are fully functional and ready to simulate. They can serve as a very useful reference in terms of seeing how a given model is built, by looking at the history list; but also in terms of how a given problem is solved and what solver settings were used. The Component Library can be found directly from the File Menu in CST Studio Suite.

Material Library

CST Studio Suite comes with a large library of material models to be directly used in the project setup and simulation. The library encompasses models for different application areas, e.g. magnetic materials for low-frequency projects and high-performance dielectrics or lossy metals for high frequency/microwave applications.

Besides generic and common use material definitions, we provide models from the most relevant and widely used vendors such as Laird Technologies, Inc., Premix Oy, Rogers Corporation, Stacem, and Tonoga, Inc. dba Taconic. These models are updated on a regular basis according to the latest datasheet and product selection.

Moreover, the library can be further extended by adding new material models and it can be shared among teams in a collaborative environment.

The material library can be accessed via right-click context menu on the Material tree item in the CST Studio Suite.

Example Model Tutorials

Right here on the SIMULIA Community's wiki there is a collection of self guided academic CST Studio Suite Student Edition Tutorials ranging a diverse spectrum of application domains. These go into the physics of what is being modeled and offer advice on best practice in terms of model set up to get the best possible results.

Help Documentation

Practically every dialog box in the CST Studio Suite has a Help button. Hitting that will bring you to the relevant page of the documentation, which explains in detail what the dialog box is all about, what the various settings do and what they mean. Beyond that the Help Documentation offers in depth information on everything from how various solvers work or what goes on under the hood when adaptive mesh refinement is turned on. Hit F1 get to the main help page or navigate to your installation folder:

QuickStart Guide

When you start up CST Studio Suite for the first time you will be prompted to enable the QuickStart Guide if you wish. It is a helpful wizard that will guide you through all the necessary steps in order to create a functioning simulation model. In case you inadvertently turned it off you can re-enable it in the Options under Preferences>User interface settings>Open QuickStart Guide on project load.

Public Training Classes

SIMULIA and our education partners offer regularly scheduled public seminars as well as training courses at customer sites. To view the worldwide course schedule and to register for a course, visit the links below. You can find the schedule of upcoming training classes on the Instructor-led SIMULIA Training website. The training classes can be sorted by application and location. If the class you seek is not offered at this time you can also send a note via the website to voice your interest in a particular training at a particular location.

Private classes tailored to your specific needs are also available, for details please reach out to your local sales representative.

3DEXPERIENCE Edu Space

The 3DEXPERIENCE Edu Space contains self-guided courses on most Dassault Systèmes' tools and applications.

Note: if you are using an academic license, you can access the Edu Space for free. See Online Learning for Academics for more information.

3DSupport App

Assuming your license is under maintenance you also have access to the world-class SIMULIA support via the 3DSupport App. There you can create a ticket describing your problem, attach your model files and you will typically get an initial response within one business day.

This option is not available to our academic users.

Hardware Recommendations

Check out the official CST Studio Suite Recommended Hardware in case your simulations are running slow or maybe not at all and you want to take a look at what hardware upgrades might be in order. These are very generic recommendations. Depending on your application more specific guidance can be given, please reach out to your local sales office for detailed advice.
