In the past decades, there has been no lack of attempts to employ 3D content on the internet. The rich and interactive 3D presentation makes a perfect and natural extension, to texts, images, audios, and videos.
But the effort has been significantly hampered by various challenges, such as difficult authoring and consumption, slow loading speed, browser incompatibility, mobility, data security concerns, and so on.
Finally, internet companies such as Google and Meta, eCommence platforms such as Amazon and Wayfair, Manufacturers such as IKEA, Software businesses such as Dassault Systemes and 3DEXCITE, have come together to build a widely accepted format, glTF. Or simply put, JPG for 3D.
In this series of posts, I'll try to capture its key benefits into one short acronym, FUSE, which brings two easy connotations:
- Connect 3D and internet.
- Ignite the 3D excitement and prevalence.
Also, FUSE stands for Fast, Universal, Simple and Engaging.
Let me explain one by one.
