Customer Defined Templates in Project Planner

Why

Standardize project creation and capitalize project content with project templates

How

Create Project Template:

  • You can now create your own project templates to allow other users to create a new project based on existing template.
  • To create a new template, based on existing project, open the project ‘Information Panel’ and select the ‘Save As Template’ command, which is available in the ‘Open Menu’.
  • All Projects Templates are listed in the ‘Project Planning Home Page’, under the ‘Recent’ category, along with all other projects.
  • The Projects Templates have a unique icon allowing you to distinguish between Projects and Templates.

Create Project From a Template:

  • You can now create a new project based on template.
  • A new ‘Create’ category was introduced in the ‘Project Planning Home Page’ allowing you to create new project:
    • From existing Project
    • From Template
    • From file

•Traceability is kept between the template and the instantiated project

Schedule as Late As Possible

Why

Enriching project scheduling strategies with ‘As Late as Possible’ scheduling methodology

How
New option, ‘End Date’ is now available for the ‘Scheduling From Strategy’ property on the project level, allowing reverse scheduling.
When ‘End Date’ option is selected, the tasks and milestones of the project will be scheduled as late as possible.

Multi Parenting of Projects (Referenced Projects)

Why

Enhance project logical structure through references of sub projects

How

You can now add a project as a reference to multiple parent project

To support that, the ‘Add Existing Project’ dialog is being enhanced, allowing you to add a project either as:

  • A Sub Project (the default and current behavior)
  • A Reference

When dragging and dropping a Sub Project on another project in the schedule view, you receive a dialog allowing you to choose if you want to:

  • Create a reference (this will not change the project parent)
  • Change the parent project

Reference projects only appear as a sub projects in the schedule view but do not behave like sub projects.

  • Reference projects are not taken into account when using ‘Including subprojects’ in filter menu.
  • Reference projects do not contribute to rollup
  • There is no propagation of access rights or any properties to reference projects
Reference Projects have different icon than Sub Projects in the Schedule View (shadow and outline)

New Notifications

Why

Improve awareness through new notifications

How

New Notification settings are introduced to inform the users about important events / changes in the project.

Notifications are sent upon the following events:

  • On Task or Milestone Completion – Assignees of successor tasks receive notification when a task or milestone is completed. (with dependency of type FS or FF)

  • On Task or Milestone Start - Assignees of successor tasks receive notification when a task or milestone is started. (with dependency of type SS or SF)
  • On Title or Description change – Assignees receive notifications when the title or description of a task, milestone or project changes.

Advanced Reminder on Tasks to be Completed or Started

Why

Improve awareness through reminders on tasks

How
New property, ‘Due dates reminder (in days)’, is available on the task level, in Information Panel, under the Members tab.
Using this property, you can indicate the number of days (X), which is used to calculate the period of time in which a notification will be sent.
Two type of notifications are available:
  • Should be started’ – This notification is sent on ‘To Do’ tasks, (X) days before planned start date.
  • ‘Should be completed’ – This notification is sent on ‘To Do’ and ‘In Work’ tasks, (X) days before planned end date.

Only one type of notification can be is sent at any given time.
If both type of notifications are applied, only the ‘Should be completed’ notification is sent

The Notifications are sent to all task’s assignees on a daily basis, and until the task is late.

A new notification setting, ‘My Tasks need to be started or completed’ is introduced in ‘3DNotification Center’ under ‘Project Planning’ section, to support this type of notification.
