Revisions, branches, and duplicates show the evolution of an object from its creation to its final version, with different levels of traceability. Each of these has a different impact on object structures. You can create an object from scratch, or based on an existing object with the Duplicate command. Then, you can revise this object to keep track of its evolution:

•Revision: Revisions allow you to capture a particular evolution of an object during its lifecycle. Any revision of this object represents an evolution of the object along the same branch. When creating a revision, the content is copied from the selected object. You can modify it afterward.

•Branch: Object revisions can be organized into branches. Branches allow new revision chains (branches) to be created based on any revision, not just the latest. Branches are generally intended for a specific purpose for example, a design alternative or a fix. This allows you to isolate the content from the initial branch, and modify it in parallel of this initial branch.

•Duplicate: A duplicate is a copy of an object. While revisions and branches are evolutions of the same object, the Duplicate command creates an object, and copies its content from the selected object. Therefore, it enables you to create a new object based on an existing object.

When working with revisioned or duplicated parts in DELMIA Machining it´s possible to reuse programs that have been created for earlier revisions. This way programmers can save time when making programs for new versions / revisions of existing parts.
