Context
Grid allows to ensure that
- all symbol will de designed respecting the same size,
- Port will be always on located on the P&ID grid allowing to have pipe route following the P&ID grid
In CATIA you will have to difine 2 grid in the "Preference" menu
- the diagram grid
- the Symbol grid
Diagram grid:
The reference Input is the minimum distance between 2 lines of the grid
The grid must fit to Symbol size to match with symbol ports
If 4mm :
Set Grid in Functional and Logical Design accordingly
Spacing 40, step 10 (40/10=4mm)
Or Spacing 20, step 5 (20/5=4mm)
Or spacing 16 step 4 (16/4=4mm)
Set the wanted values in Preference/System Architecture/Functional and Logical Design / 2D Graph FL / Grid
Symbol Grid
The reference Input is the minimum distance between 2 lines of the grid
if we take the same value as previously : 4mm
Set Grid in Symbol grid with Horizontal spacing = to the Diagram mini grid (4mm in our case).à this will define the possible position for the ports for all symbol
Define the amount of step , ex : equal to spacing to have geometrical grid 1mm
Spacing 4, step 4 (4/4 = 1mm)
Note : the important is that your ports are fitting to the Diagram gid
Vertical ports are always on a red vertical grid line
Horizontal ports are always on a red horizontal line
Set the wanted values in Preference / System Architecture / Symbol Design / Grid
