P&ID - Grid

Grid Definition

Define Grid Spacing

their is 2 definition of grid spacing:

  • For Symbol design
  • For Diagram schematic view

To ensure tha tthe component and routed line will be well arrange wit hconstant distance, you must ensure that the 2 above grid are define correctly in a accordance way

exemple

Diagram grid:

you must ensure that the grid secondary spacing is smaller enough to allow that any symbol port match to it

so if we consider that the elementary minimum size for P&ID symbol is 5mm then we can define the diagram grid as follow:

20mm / 4 step or 100mm / 20 step

in red the possible position of the port of the symbol to match Diagram grid

Symbol grid :

for the above exemple the minimum grid (secondary grid )of the diagram will become the primary grid of the symbol

so 5mm  and step number will be generaly a pair value 4  --> symbol grid is 10mm with 4 step --> grid spacing = 10/4=2.5mm

Port must be always placed on the primary grid in symbol design. if it is not possible , then you must adjust the Diagram view Grid
