Create a Place to Store Your 3D Data Using Collaborative Spaces

Collaborative spaces are secure spaces where you store and share data on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
Collaborative spaces are defined by their access rights. To have a big picture of the different attributes when managing a collaborative space, refer to the table below:

User Level Right/Credential Reader, Contributor, Author, Leader, Owner
Type of Content
  • Design - Collaborative Space storage can manage CAD data and any other kind of content
  • Standard - Collaborative Space storage can manage only standard content such as part catalogs
Type of Action to DoCreate, Modify, Revise, Maturity Change, New branch, etc.
Maturity of Content"Private", "In_work", "Frozen", "Released", "Obsolete"
Visibility of Collab-SpacePublic, Protected, Private
Organization (optional)Restricted or not per organization

Collaborative Space Visibility and Member Access Settings

Visibility for EmployeesMember Credentials

Private:

  • Content visible to members only (users who have explicit access to the collaboration space)
  • Design Collaborative Spaces can be set as Private

Contributor:

  • Reading access and content evaluation (such as Review and Simulation...)

Protected:

  • Content with maturity 'Released' or 'Obsolete' visible to all users
  • Design Collaborative Spaces can be set as Protected

Author:

  • Inherit all Contributor access rights
Create definition content (such as Requirements, Physical Product...)

Public

  • Content visible to all users logged into the tenant (same organization), unless the content is PRIVATE
  • Design Collaborative Spaces can be set as Public
  • Standard Collaborative Spaces can only be set as Public

Leader/Owner

  • Inherit all Author access rights.
Create resource and administrative resource content (such as Library, Project Template, Material Domain…)

Data Visibility in Collaborative Spaces

The following table will describe the visibility of data across different maturity states for the three types of collaborative spaces :

Type of Collaborative Space

State of Maturing on the data

Private data (data visible to user only)Public Data (data visible to all users of the same organization/tenant)Private Data (date visible to the collaborative space members)

💪 Recommended Practices:

Limit the amount of Collaborative Spaces you use: Having many Collaborative can cause confusion for new users. We recommend that you limit the number of Collaborative Spaces created on your platform.

  • Common Space is the default space so that any user on the platform can always save data.
  • Collaborative Spaces can be set as Design or Standard Family types

In certain scenarios you may want to add additional Collaborative Spaces, for example in the case where you are working on a new confidential project where a limited number need access, then creating a dedicated Collaborative Space may be required.
