Introduction
Before entering into the details of the Piping dedicated command, let's sumup how the link are set between object in piping
Pipes
Pipe has external reference link with part which means that the pipe extremity will be by default always slave of the connected part
-> if you use standard move command of the CATIA Infra or Assembly tool,:
- if you move a part , the last node of the pipe will follow
- if you move the pipe , all nodes will move except the extremity ones if they are connecte
Parts
when 2 piping part are connected , an engineering connection is created with a "Master/slave" relation the master is always the part on which we place the other. when connecting 2 component the master will be the part to wich we connect (second selection)
Network
when manipulating network user don't want to have to think about how the links have been created and the nature of the links, it is why we have a dedicated command for that in Piping/HVAC App ; called Adjust Layout
Note ; if you use the Translate or rotate command from piping App the behavior will be similar to the default behavior common to all CATIA objects. only Adjust layout has dedicated behavior
The command is very power full but can be a little tricky to use for begginers because you have many options in it, let see in the following videos some exemple of usage

Align Pipe segment / branch with another element
switch to alternate position
Align Pipe segment including insulation thickness and/or safety marging
prerequisite:
to take into account insulation thickness during pipe network alignement, you need either:
- having placed insulation on pipes
- or if the insulation are not yet placed, having in the lineID the insulation specification defined
- of course you need to have defined correction insulation specification in the setup
to take into account osafety offset rules, you must have defined first into your piping specification:
- Piping safety offset rule table to determine what is the minimum distance authorized between 2 pipe references.
- this table can be used to determine the minimum distance between pipe only or including the flange. in this case the
with insulation:
with safetry offset:
