What is the context
- Integrated Built Environment leverages 3DEXPERIENCE as Common Data Environment to provide real-time collaboration on information authored both internally and externally
- Revit is a solution extensively used in the AEC industry and part of the design ecosystem of most General Contractors and Architecture offices
- A solution for connecting Revit with 3DEXPERIENCE enables to leverage both the power of real-time collaboration and access to advanced generative design capabilities of the platform
How is this covered by UDV: Collaborative Designer for Revit (Cloud Only)
Role Overview
Collaborative Designer for Revit allows users to save and retrieve models directly from Revit into 3DEXPERIENCE On Cloud through an embedded plug-in (without exchanging files). Models stored in 3DEXPERIENCE can be seamlessly browsed in Revit allowing users to update them without losing information.
Once Revit models are in the platform they can benefit of the extended Common Data Environment capabilities of 3DEXPERIENCE, connecting them with documents, tasks, issues or existing BIM models coming from other 3rd party tools. Additionally they can be further detailed leveraging the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform advanced generative design capabilities.
Main Functionalities:
- Open from Revit Central Models saved in 3DEXPERIENCE, modify and save back into the platform
- Explore from 3DEXPERIENCE Revit Central Models, connecting them to other platform objects like tasks, issues, documents and other models to build up the Virtual Twin with full digital continuity
- Open from 3DEXPERIENCE Central Models saved in 3DEXPERIENCE, distribute design features (like walls, pipes, windows,...) and further detail them in 3DEXPERIENCE keeping associativity and traceability with the original Revit model
- Save Revit sheets in 3DEXPERIENCE keeping links with their original Revit model, allowing browsing the sheets detailed information and links to the model from the platform.
- Manage Revit Model revisions and lifecycle from 3DEXPERIENCE at root level
- Manage Revit Family Templates and Revit Families saved in the platform from Revit, allowing to instantiate them in the Revit design session
- Revit Families are catalogs of parametric objects for building equipment like doors, windows, etc extensively used in architecture design
- Revit Families are catalogs of parametric objects for building equipment like doors, windows, etc extensively used in architecture design
Use Cases
- Revit PowerBy for Collaboration
- For projects where 3DEXPERIENCE is used as Common Data Environment, combining designs authored in 3rd party tools to build up the Virtual Twin of the asset while managing all project information
- Revit design offices can save their Central Model in 3DEXPERIENCE, benefiting of all the Common Data Environment capabilities of the platform to manage versions and link their models with the extended project ecosystem
- BIM Managers can combine models from Revit with additional BIM models imported in other formats to build a unified Virtual Twin. They can leverage the platform for coordination, review, information quality checks and to manage and resolve issues.
- Revit PowerBy for Supplemental Design
- For projects where the advanced generative design capabilities of 3DEXPERIENCE are used to further detail designs authored in Revit
- Revit design offices can save their Central Model in 3DEXPERIENCE, benefiting of all the Common Data Environment capabilities of the platform to manage versions and link their models with the extended project ecosystem
- 3DEXPERIENCE detailed designers can leverage the Revit models as context to instantiate Declarative and Detailed Bricks, leveraging parametric generative design to build the Construction Virtual Twin of the asset
Other ways of managing Revit data
Converters work file-based and allow the ingestion of models in proprietary and non-proprietary formats into 3DEXPERIENCE. Files exported from Revit in RVT or IFC formats can be brought into 3DEXPERIENCE with converters packaged into different roles:
- Building and Civil Model Coordinator provides a bundle with the extended list of AEC converters (including AutoCAD, COLLADA, FBX,IFC, IGES, LandXML, Microstation, OBJ, Revit, Rhinoceros and STEP) as well as advanced capabilities for checking BIM quality and compliance.
- Conversion Data Integrator for Revit is the Role containing just the Revit Converter to ingest Revit files into 3DEXPERIENCE. It is a converter for one shot import in the platform, no link is kept to the original model - available in the bundle of Building and Civil Model Coordinator (BCMCC)
- Conversion Data Integrator for IFC is a converter that allows to leverage the IFC standard format as vehicle for exchanging files with Revit. It provides a consistent way of exchanging information compliant with OpenBIM practice, but breaks continuity with the original RVT content.
