Developable surfaces, a cladding and structure optimization strategy.
Definition:
Developable Surface
- A surface that can be unrolled or flattened without stretching / with zero deformation
- A surface with only one directional curvature, i.e. 0 Gaussian curvature.
- A ruled surface with a constant or parallel normal direction vector along each ruling line.
- Shapes formed with paper without creasing.
- Tangentially linked planes cones and cylinders.
