Panel Patterning, developable surface, Gaussian curvature

Developable surfaces, a cladding and structure optimization strategy.

Definition:
Developable Surface

  1. A surface that can be unrolled or flattened without stretching / with zero deformation
  2. A surface with only one directional curvature, i.e. 0 Gaussian curvature.
  3. A ruled surface with a constant or parallel normal direction vector along each ruling line.
  4. Shapes formed with paper without creasing.
  5. Tangentially linked planes cones and cylinders.
