Generative Templates in SOLIDWORKS + xGen Framework

Context

Virtual makers, who produce building components for construction sites, need to ensure highly integrated information quickly for any project context. Starting with design information, a virtual maker layers on it a framework driven by expert industry knowledge. The Fabrication assembly, derived from an adaptable Generative Template, remains linked to the framework for control and reliability.

Overview

Setup the Knowhow Framework

Start by bringing in 3D building design data using IFC (or other supported formats) to setup a framework for the fabrication model. xGenerative Design provides a highly flexible environment for quickly creating a framework based on expert knowledge. The logical components of xGen can be pieced together easily to rapidly build complex rules and relationships.

Instantiate Generative Templates

A Generative Template is built for adaptability to many possible scenarios while still be manufacturable. The virtual maker derives fabrication-ready components from the template which are connected to the knowhow framework.

Adapt the Framework and Prepare for Reuse

Additional expert knowledge is layered onto the framework which causes it to automatically adjust the fabrication assembly. The knowhow framework is packaged as a User Operator in xGen for easy sharing and simple reuse across multiple projects.

Scenario

  1. Import project Design Model and apply framework with industry knowledge.
  2. Use Generative Template to create fabrication-ready units fitted to project context.
  3. Add Expert Knowledge to the framework to automatically update the fabrication model and prepare for reuse.
