Hi all, first time poster, long time reader..
This one has me stumped..
I am trying to cut a multiple faceted face from a cylindrical object.
Basically i have a 'non uniform' facet pattern that i wish to cut from a cylinder.
similar to the effect seen on the attached image of beads.
I have produced the pattern i wish to cut as a flat image to suit the circumference of the cylinder i want to cut, and had hoped to extrude and cut the facets in flat form before being able to 'wrap' to the cylinder.
but after trawling many post i realise this may be one of the only weakness's of solidworks i have ever seen in years and years..
I have so far had to create a sketch for each facet (to avoid the open/intersecting problems), from this i can then wrap each facet sketch individually to the cylinder as a 'scribe' using the wrap tool, but seeing as i have 100+ facets i am staring at hours and hours to wrap each sketch, let alone create each facet in 3d from the footprint.
Any ideas, would be really apprieciated, and if i am simply asking too much of the software this would save me hours or persistance..
Thank you.
Ben
