I'm Matthew Lorono from the Product Definition group at SolidWorks Corp, here to ask you for your input!
In SolidWorks drawing mode, there are currently two tools that create section views: Section View and Aligned Section View. Each tool has its own strengths and weaknesses.
- For example, a user may add 90deg jogs to create an offset section with the Section View tool (see ASME Y14.3M-1994 fig 3-6 and ISO 128:1982 fig 26), but cannot create jogs with the Aligned Section View tool.
- Another example, the Aligned Section View tool can be used to create bent cutting planes (see ASME Y14.3M-1994 fig 3-6 and ISO:128:1982 fig 28), but Section View tool will create incorrect results (per the international standards) with the same underlining sketch.
- Also, one may not switch between the two tools on-the-fly.
See the image below and the file attachment for examples of how SolidWorks handles various scenarios for section views.
What issues do you have when creating and editing section views in SolidWorks drawing mode? What do you think of combining these two tools into one more power tool? Would you prefer that SolidWorks section view functionality cover more aspects of the internation standards? Feel free to address the above examples, and to bring up your own examples. Real world cases are very welcome!
Thank you!
