Upon opening sketch, entire display (in SolidWorks) goes boink!

To be a little bit more precise,

First opening SolidWorks, everything seems to be going along pretty nicely, nothing too strange, I can even open previous designs and objects.. It is when I decide to draw upon the object or blank plane, which requires a new sketch, does the entire display in SolidWorks become covered in a grey-blue gradient lighter at the top and descending into a darker shade at the bottom. I can still right-click and a menu appears, so I assume that there is still stuff going on behind this rather annoying veil...

There are a few things I have done so far to try and toubleshoot and fix the problem. First I updated the graphics driver being used on this computer (NVIDIA GeForce 8600), and then I decreased the hardware accleration to see if it was a problem with the graphics driver itself or within the SolidWorks program.. All this I did and still the veil plauges me and continues to obscure the sight of what I am doing..

What suggestions do you guys have? I feel that I still may have not described the problem enough for a thorough investigation by the fellow forum-lookers, if that is so ask me for more specs and I will find them for you.. fixing this problem would help out this class a lot.

Thank you for what help may come
