Hi all once again,
I've been trying to learn Solidworks 2010 edition on my home PC for the last month or so about an hour a nite but haven't done too much with assemblies yet (just parts and weldments so far). I'm following tutorials and the books but simply don't have time to learn all the ins and outs unfortunately since the books are so thick (training manuals). For work, I'm trying to assemble two parts into an assembly but am not sure if I'm even on the right track and how to start out beyond bringing both parts into the assembly drawing.
Basically, I have a saddle block with 3/4" groove in it along the length. Then we have a 7/8" dia. u-bolt with 2 1/4" radiused corners on centerline which must sit flat in the groove on centerline with the block (the quadrant of both the u-bolt and groove in block must be coincident / midpoint of both along length should be coincident). I'm not sure how to start the mate. I don't see alot of choices there. Any info would be great! I'm trying to get a radiused edge that needs to go on the saddle block both sides to allow the u-bolt to sit flat in the groove. As you can see from the attached pics, with the edges being square on the block, the radiused edge u-bolt cannot sit flat w/o having to mill the edges of the block to a radius. My goal is getting the u-bolt aligned in the groove and then make a drawing showing the radiused groove at the edges for the shop. Right now they're using trial and error. Thanks!
