SW- Cutlist Summary Table Query

Hi all,

I'm looking for a way to streamline the process of managing cut-list properties in SOLIDWORKS to reduce the manual admin work we currently do when creating weldment parts.

For example:

Scenario 1 – Weldment Profile (e.g., 250 UC):

When I create a new weldment using a standard profile like a 250 UC, I notice that most of the cut-list properties are automatically populated with linked values. However, one common issue is that the Item Number field is always blank by default. I usually have to manually go into the Value/Text Expression dropdown and select "Cut List Item Name" to populate it.

Question:
Is there a way to set this link ("Cut List Item Name") as a default value for the Item Number property, so it’s automatically populated for every new cut-list item?

Scenario 2 – Non-Standard Geometry (e.g., Custom Plate):

When I add custom geometry like a plate (not a standard weldment profile), the resulting cut-list is much more limited—it lacks many of the default properties and none are pre-filled or linked.

Question:
Is there a method to add custom properties and link them to default values (like material, thickness, item number, etc.) so that even custom bodies have the same property setup as a standard weldment profile?

In short, I’d like to:

  • Edit the default cut-list property table template
  • Link common fields to specific values or expressions by default (e.g., "Material", "Cut List Item Name", "Thickness", etc.)

Any advice or best practices would be highly appreciated.
