Subassemblies lose rotational movement when concentrically mated in final assembly. How to mate to allow for rotational and arm movement?

Hello,

I'm trying to mate my current assembly in a way so that each "slab" extends outwards by the telescoping arms while the middle disc rotates. In each of the slab subassemblies, I can get the arm movement and the rotation, but when I put them all together & mate them concentric to a rod that runs through the middle (that I'm hoping to use for doing the right spacing between slabs) they no longer want to move the telescoping arms in or out, just rotation. Does anyone have some advice on how I could get these subassemblies to rotate AND extend outwards in the final rotating assembly? I want each level to alternate between CW and CCW in correlation to one another.

I'm doing this for a short animation/video render where I'll hide all the components so the slabs look like their floating; it doesn't have to be mechanically feasible, I just want to see if I can do something like this with SolidWorks

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated
