I'm trying to get EPDM setup to take over handling our drawing revision process.
I need a solution to two (seemingly simple) requirements:
1) I need an alpha counter (I only see options for numeric or hexadecimal) *side note, do any of you use a hexadecimal counter? what for??
2) I need the counter to reset each day.
Our serialization scheme for ECNs follows the convention:
The alpha counter (A, B, C, D) is what identifies each ECN created on that day. It resets each day. This has been our system for the last 20 years, so I'd like to avoid changing it if possible.
So for example, if today is February 19, 2015 and I create 3 ECNs they are:
150219A
150219B
150219C
Then tomorrow (February 20, 2015) I create 3 more ECNs they are:
150220A
150220B
150220C
I would prefer a non API solution. I am comfortable coding and have written a couple add-ins and lots of macros for Solidworks, our ERP system, various MS office applications, and that has given me plenty of experience to know that with custom solutions come questions of maintenance, compatibility with other software/add-ins, and customer service (who is going to answer questions, address when things don't work right, etc.)
I'm wondering if there is a way to combine multiple serial numbers in a variable or something?
