Renaming Files Macro

I am looking for some help in the creation of a possible macro.

The process presently is to use SW explorer to rename our files. The unfortunate problem is that this process is far to slow for us. We have huge assemblies (sometimes 2000+ parts) and renaming each of these files is quite time consuming. The assemblies go through many design changes before the concept is agreed upon and then the real work of part numbering can be established. Presently when making files we will have a job number, and task number e.g.: 11053-16. After the task number sometimes users will add the next seqential number "01" or just put "XX" after the task number. after the XX or seqential number a description of the part itself is added.

What we are wanting to do is write a policy to force all users to use and "XX" after the task number and then have a macro rename all files with XX to the next seqential number starting from "01" and going up.

I posted this in a private forum late last week and a suggestion was to do this in the assembly, which I think might be a good place to start. because we can't lose connection between the part and assemblies. That's why we have to use SW explorer.

Thanks,
