License Key Lost & Reseller Closed: New VAR is Demanding a $500 Reactivation Fee. Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I am facing a major issue regarding my SolidWorks license and would really appreciate some guidance or advice from anyone who has experienced something similar.

Here is the situation:

  • The Problem: I purchased a legitimate SolidWorks license a while ago. Unfortunately, I have lost my license key, and I currently do not have access to it.
  • The Complication: The local Value-Added Reseller (VAR) from whom I originally purchased the software has gone out of business and closed down completely.
  • The Current Issue: I contacted the new official SolidWorks distributor/VAR in Turkey to recover my license and get my activation key. However, they informed me that since my license has been "suspended" or inactive in the system, I need to pay a \\\$500 reactivation/late fee to get it sorted out.

To be honest, this feels quite unfair to me as an end-user. I have already fully paid for this perpetual product in the past. It is not my fault that the original reseller went out of business, making it impossible for me to recover my credentials through them. Paying \\\$500 just to look up and reactivate a product I rightfully own seems unreasonable.

My questions to the community and any SolidWorks staff here:

  1. Is this \\\$500 reactivation fee a strict, non-negotiable policy enforced directly by Dassault Systèmes, or is it at the discretion of the new VAR?
  2. Has anyone successfully managed to bypass this fee under similar circumstances (e.g., when the original reseller closed down)?
  3. I still have the official purchase invoice/proof of payment from the old reseller. Can I escalate this directly to SolidWorks HQ to get my key without paying this fee?

I would deeply appreciate any insights, official documentation, or advice on how to handle this negotiation with the new distributor.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards,
