layouts... blocks... anything fast!!!

Hi,

I have an issue here... My cie directors are asking me to sell them the SW idea to do large layout for 3D presentations of a facility. ( They dont know SW and they want to do the layout themselves) So It has to be friendly user and they dont want to add ALL mates, I dont blame them!!

HOW TO USE SW PROPERLY??? i'm not a newbie in SW, not an expert also, but they put me in front of a challenge.

Their points is that clients, being accountants, lawyers, NOT designers, don't always understand 2D layouts with all the lines of Autocad 2D.

SW can easily manage 2D blocks. With the "Layout" SW utility, it is as fast as autocad to do the same 2D presentation. But to present the 3D models, it's beginning to be complexe.

I have two approach for the moment:

  • Inserting 3D models as a new part (not blocks or library std) since part are changing (of length, width, etc.) from an equipement and another. Supports for instance. They can use the same "block", but since I insert maybe 200 of them, I don't want to modify all of them if one is higher than another. FORGET configurations: 1st I HATE them, 2nd It would be inefficient even using parametric programs
  • Using SW Layout. I'm actually preferring this approch. being faster and easier. But when I use the Create Part From Block, It doesn't let me chosse the orientation of the part. If i'm in the top view, I insert my part with the front view "mating" the top view...

please help... What are your ideas on that subject??

thanks
