I have a two part assembly file. An inner metal piece with a plastic part wrapped around it. I am trying to determine the stress caused by thermal expansion on the plastic part as it cools around the metal insert. The plastic solidifies at approximately 220C and then cools down to 23C. The intial temperature of the metal is 23C. I am trying to capture the residual stress in the plastic after it cools.
I have been taught to define the initial 0 strain in the simulation properties as the 220C. I then put a temperature load of 23C on the plastic. However, since the metal insert is 23C at the start of the simulation I do not know how to make this work in that manner. The only thing I can think to do is make the metal insert rigid.
Is there a way I can define initial temperatures in a static or non-linear analysis? I see the option there and it is grayed out in both static and non-linear. So I'm assuming there is a way to do so.
