Inserted part as material

Hi,

We're manufacturing machined parts made from castings. To do the machining drawings we're inserting the casting as a new part in the new part and applying the maching, i.e milling and turning. When we do the production drawing we want the casting part to show as the material for the machined casting and when we do a drawing of a part made from raw material we want the material to show as the assigned material, i.e AISI316.

An example:

We need a threaded axle with the article code CMM-12345 which is made from a casting with the name CMC-12345. We make a part named CMC-12345, apply a material, EN42000, and save it. We then start a new part and insert the casting under "Insert/Part" and do the thread on it, apply the same material, EN42000, and save it as CMM-12345. When we do the 2D drawing we want the part CMC-12345 to show under material.

I've tried to do a custom property tab with radio buttons to choose if it's one or the other with the machined raw material to get it's material properties from "SW-Material" but what can I put on the machined casting? Is there a link to the inserted parts file name?

Or are we going about this the wrong way?

If I'm unclear please let me know and I'll try to clarify.

BR

Henrik
