Inertial effects on shell mesh...

I have a test object I'm designing that will be subject to inertial loading. Been using mostly solid meshes in past analyses, however, after gaining some more experience and knowledge, I came to realize that shell meshes (or beam) were more appropriate for my analysis situation. After spending a good chunk of time converting the solid model to mid-surfaces and re-mating everything (what fun!), and running Simulation a few times to discover that not all surface mates are alike (hello component contact manager!), finally was getting results out of the model. I noticed applied gravity loads have no affect on the parts. If I had thought about it more, I probably would have realized that, duh, it was not an unexpected result.

That begs the question, if you think you need to utilize shell meshing, but your system has applied interial loads, is there a workaround? I apologize if this is an elementary question, been trying learn these analysis techniques on my own...
