I do not have the greatest amount of experience in using the simulation feature in Solidworks and am attempting to perform an analysis on a steel frame using techniques I am familiar with, however I am getting very skewed results. The frame hoists up a part, weighing approximately 330 lbs., which is bolted at the bottom of the legs where the hardware is located. The frame is composed of 3 steel c-channels, which are welded together, and a steel rod, which is welded at the center of the horizontal beam. A crane will hoist the bar by hooking onto the cylindrical rod while the load generates a downward force and consequentely causing stress in the channels. I created the frame using Solidworks' Weldments feature and attempted to perform a simulation by adding fixed geometry at the welded rod and 2 downward forces, 165 lbs. each, at the cuts on the bottom of the legs where the hardware feeds through, however I am getting error messages that say I need to add proper connections. Lack of success led me to create a second part file of the frame, this time crudely drawn with shapes that closely mimic the dimensions and material properties of the c-channel and extruded to the correct size. I performed the same operation and was successful in generating results, however they are not coming out correct. The part that is being hoisted up is fairly large and, consequently, the vertical c-channels should not experience any kind of inward deformation. The primary source of strain/bowing should come at the horizontal channel. I have attached the part files of the frames, both the weldment and the crudely drawn replica, if anyone needs to take a look. Any advice/pointers for better future simulation experiences would be very much appreciated. Thanks
