I am designing a clamp to grip a steel column which i will suspend pulleys etc off of it, i have a plate either side of the column bolted together at the ends of the 2 plates.

i am wanting to analyse what "gripping" force my clamp produces. and find out when the clamp will start slipping down the column.below is a crude drawing of what my clamping system will be.
