Example, in the render below you can see the shadow of a boss that is on the inside of the part. The wall that it is bleeding through is not even very thin - it is 0.100" wall thickness.
Appearance: black soft touch plastic
When I change appearance to black low gloss plastic the problem goes away. It's an annoying problem, seems to appear on textured materials. The issue must be tied to the mysterious "surface finish" file that solidworks attaches to materials (Appearance properties -> Advanced -> Surface Finish -> Surface Finish drop down). All other settings appear to be exactly the same between these two appearances. I have also fiddled with scene, photoview, and image quality settings and those don't change anything so I am pretty sure it is an appearance problem. Has anyone found a workaround for this issue? The textured appearances look cool in renderings, would prefer not to be restricted to only low gloss plastic.
