Equation not accepting dimension from second part

Hello,

I've recently upgraded to the 2015 Student edition of solidworks. Myself and a number of other students have had their assemblies break due to equation errors. Solidworks is no longer allowing equations to accept dimensions from another part using this sort of syntax:

D1@Sketch1 = D1@Sketch1@Part1.Part

Equations that worked just fine prior to the update are now reading back as syntax errors. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this error and had a solution to it. I threw together a quick example and have attached the image. In the example I am trying to reference an part in the same directory as the part I am editing. The green check mark shows up however when I select OK the dialog says the syntax is invalid.

I found some mentions of a MS windows security update causing the problem. However when I uninstalled the update and repaired the solidworks installation the issue persisted. Anyone know how to fix this?

My version is 2015 Academic V23.2

Thanks!
