I had recently taken the SolidWorks drawings class, and found the DimXpert (3-D Annotations) to be a useful method of applying detail dimensions with GD&T. It seems to be a time saver. However, my problem with DimXpert is that the dimensions are not driving dimensions (model items), but are driven (reference) dimensions.
One suggestion at the SW VAR drawings class was to use layers by using the DimXpert dimensions in the drawing, and creating another layer for the driving dims that need to modifed (flipping back & forth between layers). As I have not used layers in SW, what is the best practice for doing this? Is there a "DimXpert best practice guide" beyond the material covered in the SW Drawings class? Is DimXpert the best way to go when creating SW drawings (ex: sheet metal parts, machined parts, molded parts, etc.)?
For more information, see the DimXpert: need some Xpertise (see here) previous discussion. BTW, I am using SW 2010 Premium.
