is there a one to one mapping that for every column heading in the design table there is a matching dimension/feature/state in the model?

meaning that

if there is any column heading without a match the design table will always be seen as invalid.

I think the answer is yes, but I am trying to do some "out of box" work. Always a good idea to go back and check your assumptions.
