Is it possible to delete a 'Split Line' without deleting all dependents?

I'm adjusting a model and I want to remove a split line early in the tree since I don't need it anymore.  Unfortunatly, when I try to delete it, it also wants to delete hundreds of other features that are dependent.

I placed an example in this thread.  I want to remove split line 1 without deleting Boundary - Surface1.  I don't care if Boundary - Surface 1 fails, because I can fix that.

From scanning the threads I'm not hopeful.  Does anyone know a work around?
