My imagination is getting the best of me and it seems that I can't find a suitable answer through some of the tutorials and discussions on the web. Of course, it is known that I'm not the brightest of the bunch. Maybe someone can enlighten me.
Situation: 1 part/assembly will have multiple drawings corresponding to its various configurations. (1 part/assembly - 8 drawings all pointing to the same part/assembly.)
Issue: Engineers (new and seasoned) opening described part/drawing may change the wrong configuration and/or drawing by mistake not verifying that there are multiples attached. (no blame or judgment here since most the time the task is being rushed due to an overdue deadline.)
Current Solution: the mechanical team doesn't use configurations for the explained reason above. Each configuration becomes a new part and drawing.
Question: For archiving, simplicity, and "error resistant" purposes, is there a way to code a message box that will pop up after an existing part/assembly is opened; one that will notify and remind the user, before they can even start rotating the part/assembly, that there are multiple configurations used for multiple drawings? (Okay button optional.)
I'd like to see configurations used more appropriately. If all configurations have to change which share the same geometry or feature it will save a lot of time and \$\$\$ to do it in one part rather than try to push 8 parts/drawings through ECN, ECO and DOC Control processes. I'm trying to find ways to maximize productivity while maintaining proper procedure. Any thoughts are welcome.
