CNC Tube Bending

I know some tricks in the sheet metal trade that guide my 3D CAD modeling techniques. Sheet metal mechanics generally like my stuff.

I do not know what is "state of the art" in CNC tube bending. (insert embarrassment emoticon)

What makes tube bending easier to set up in the real world- what should I improve in my modeling methods?

I authored the article behind the following hyperlink recommends the use of planes in 3D sketches.  The last several illustrations referenced in the text were put into a slide show icon found at the end of the column.
