I have a few questions to ask about Workgroup PDM. I have been trying it out and find it a good thing but a bit confusing sometimes.
1) I frequently need to check out files from more than one project at a time. Let's say that I check out project A assembly and all the components. Later in the day I need to make some changes to Project B or some of it's components. Both projects have numerous files and when both files are checked out the vault gets confusing. What is best practice here? Check in project A and Check out project B? Place both projects in their own folders inside the working directory? Something else?
2) I notice that when checking in files that it only deletes local files if you check the file in. Imagine a case where I would have an assembly and 20 components and I made a change to one component. Now when I check the file in it leaves 19 files behind in the local working directory. Of course I have also checked something else out in the meantime and my working directory gets very messy. I could check all the files in but there are no changes to the 19 and it would warn me. What is best practice here to keep things in the working directory clean.
3) In the vault view there is a very reasonable layout of files in a hirerarchy of assemblies, files etc. IN the local view all the files are listed alphabetically. IT would be a lot easier to manage the local directory if the view were like the vault. Is there a way to change the default view of the local working directory?
Again, best practices?
