I'm curious how others in the community feel about using model dimensions inserted into the drawing (as opposed to creating dimensions in the drawing).
My belief is that:
- Model sketches and features should be created and dimensioned according to the design intent wherever possible.
- Where it's clear that pre-existing dimensions DO NOT follow design intent, or are under-constrained, it's acceptable to change it to be so.
- The time has been spent to do this once, so it's a time waster to create the dimensions again in the drawing. (Exception being that occasional dimensions might need to be added to assist shop floor clarification, inspection dimensions, etc.)
My experience with others' work is that roughly 99.99% of the time, dimensions are created in the drawing.
