Automating drawing and assembly updates

Dear all

We are a smaller company that has moved to the 3DXperience platform to optimize our workflow and cooperation between our two separate brances.

We are now in the final stages of our first project completly designed on the platform and We have some questions about how others have organized their workflows around design updates.

Always an issue in engineering design, is to make sure that subsuppliers gets an updated drawing that reflects the latest release.

We have Solidworks connected setup, so that it saves a .pdf or .step file when you save the file to the platform from SW Connected. These files are then shared with our subsuppliers.

The issue then is, when you need to fx. move a hole a few millimeters on a part in an assembly, then to get that change propagated to all the affected drawings you will need to open and resave all the assemblies this part is part of and same goes for all the drawings of these assemblies. This is a manual process that can in some cases be somewhat cumbersome and with the risk of forgetting to update all files, which then results in old drawings being shared with subsuppliers

This was of course also an issue in our old Solidworks PDM system, but maybe there are some new tools or tricks how to improve this. I hope You will share some of your knowledge and experiences on this topic

Kind regards

Martin
