Assemblies with lots of mate references

Hey folks,

Anyone have much experience with assemblies that incorporate a lot(dozens) of discrete Mate References? We're modeling a modularbuilding system in SolidWorks, and using MRs at the top-levelassembly to attach panelized walls, roofs, floors, etc. For themost part it works really nicely. The problem I'm now having isthat there are so many mate references, that when I add a newcomponent to the assembly it jumps around all over the place tryingto snap to various locations. It was my understanding that MRs weresupposed to look for and prefer others with the same name, butnaming doesn't seem to make a difference in this case.

Is there any way to get MRs to create mates other than wheninserting/dragging a new component into an assembly? I was hopingthat I could import the new component into a floating position, andthen multiple select the two corresponding MR features and have thesoftware automatically create the mates that way, but that doesn'tseem to work. Basically I'm looking for a way to trigger the MRswithout relying on dragging the component to an appropriate snaplocation.

I've got some other MR related questions but wanted to throw thisout there first to see if anyone's dealt with this in depth. Thanks!
