Solidworks won't open MS Excel to create design table

I have Solidworks 2020 SP3 (Educational license) and am starting to work with configurations (I have a design with 3 configurations). I would like to use Design Tables. However, when I go to Insert>Tables>Design Tables - and hit the OK button to "auto-create" - Excel seems to want to start as the header "almost" becomes visible - but it just blinks and SW just locks up. I have to use Task Manager to shutdown/kill SW. I'm running Excel 2013 - on Windows 10 64 bit system. From what I gather online - all these "should" play well together, but don't. I've also tried creating the spreadsheet/saving off line - then I try to link/open via the Design Tables command (as opposed to auto-create) and it doesn't work either.
